Declared America’s Hans Christian Anderson by Newsweek, Jane Yolen is the author of more than 250 books for children, young adults, and adults, and is an accomplished poet. Many of her children’s titles are instantly recognizable: Owl Moon, The Devil’s Arithmetic, How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?, and Piggins, some of which have been turned into films. A 1990 Smith medalist and a recipient of a Smith honorary doctor of letters degree in 2003, Yolen’s books and short stories have garnered numerous awards, including the Caldecott Medal, two Nebula Awards, a World Fantasy Award, a Golden Kite Award, and a Jewish Book Award. She is a former president of the Science Fiction Writers of America and for more than 25 years served on the board of directors of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. She divides her time between Hatfield, Massachusetts and a home in Scotland.
