An award-winning filmmaker as well as novelist, Ozeki was a recipient of an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from Smith in 2006. Her first novel, My Year of Meats, tells the story of two women, Jane and Akiko—one American, one Japanese—and a television cooking show; it has been translated into eleven languages and published in fourteen countries. My Year of Meats won the Kiriyama Pacific Rim Award, the Imus/Barnes and Noble American Book Award, and was awarded the Special Jury Prize of the World Cookbook Awards in Versailles. Her second novel, All Over Creation, published in 2003, was chosen as a New York Times Notable Book and was a recipient of the 2004 American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation and the Willa Literary Award for Contemporary Fiction. Ozeki divides her time between New York City and British Columbia.
