ou are invited to events on November 14 celebrating Movement, a major installation by the Korean-American artist Yong Soon Min. This important work was acquired for the Smith College Museum of Art by the Korean American Students of Smith (KASS) through their newly established Korean Arts Foundation (KAF).
Movement is the centerpiece of an exhibition of the same name (on view October 17, 2008 - January 11, 2009) featuring works by established and emerging Korean-born artists. Yong Soon Min will present a lecture and will also be on hand in the exhibition gallery to discuss her work. There will be an opportunity to meet other participating artists as well.
The Korean Arts Foundation was formed in 2005 by members of KASS to bring greater awareness of Asian/Korean culture to campus. One of KAF's first initiatives was to acquire a work of art by a female Korean or Korean-American artist for the museum's permanent collection. The November 14 events celebrate the students' remarkable achievement and the generosity of donors who made the acquisition possible. |
