Women for the World: The Campaign for Smith

Dear Alumna,

Last night, in the company of hundreds of alumnae, faculty and students, I joined Elizabeth Mugar Eveillard '69, chair of the board of trustees, in announcing a major new fundraising initiative that will, with your help, make Smith the destination college for women in the 21st century.

We are counting on your support.

Called Women for the World, our campaign has an ambitious goal of $450 million that matches our expansive vision. We are reaching high because the needĀ for more women leadersĀ is great, and Smith, with its long history and exceptional resources, is the place to fill that need.

Let me tell you what this campaign—and your participation in it—will accomplish.

    • By increasing funds available for scholarships and financial aid (our highest priority), we will ease the financial burden on families and make Smith more accessible to young women around the world, regardless of their means, creating a stronger, more diverse, campus.
    • Through increased resources, we will make it possible for every student to work, study and live in communities different from her own, answering the demand from students that they be globally educated.
    • Through curricular innovations, unique partnerships and programs, and new faculty-student research opportunities, Smith will be known as a leader in teaching and scholarship and the pre-eminent source of women leaders able to offer valuable solutions to the world's challenges.

Women for the World implies a movement, a collective effort to extend a hand forward to help young women everywhere receive an education that matches their great ambitions. If we stand together as a community—as we have done so many times before—we can make a real difference in the lives of young women who want to lead, who want to make the world better.

The best—and easiest—way for you to participate is by making a gift through the Smith Fund. Please join me, and the thousands of alumnae who have already given, in making Women for the World: The Campaign for Smith a success.

With gratitude,

Carol T. Christ
