On Saturday, October 19, 2013, more than 2,000 Smith College students, faculty, staff, alumnae and trustees joined delegates from colleges and universities around the world for the inauguration of Smith's 11th president, Kathleen McCartney. President McCartney spoke about the importance of renewal and change, the ongoing work needed for women’s equality and her commitment to "expanding Smith's power in the world." Two panel discussions on Saturday morning—“The Future of Higher Education Leadership” and “The Transformational Power of Women’s Leadership”—brought together college and university presidents and other leaders to explore the landscape of higher education and issues crucial to cultivating a greater number of women in leadership positions. |

“Art Stories: Personal Experiences with SCMA’s Collection” is a display of prints, drawings, photographs, paintings and sculpture from the Smith College Museum of Art's permanent collection chosen by the Smith community to welcome President McCartney to the college and introduce her to the museum.
