The first Choral Alumnae Homecoming Weekend, held in November 2001, garnered so much excitement that it seemed only appropriate to do it again. Indeed, alumnae who came to sing that weekend left with a feeling of wanting to sing more, sing better, and sing together. With so many distinguished alumnae in the choral and performance music community, you can hardly blame them.
So here we are! This year’s Choral Alumnae Homecoming, scheduled for Friday, September 29, through Sunday, October 1, at Smith College promises to be a weekend filled with music and good times. The event will feature a keynote address by composer, conductor, and teacher Alice Pyle Parker ’47 (http://www.aliceparker.com), followed by a rehearsal that will include her composition “Alma Mater Re-viewed.” Saturday will be spent mostly in rehearsal, both on our own and with Smith’s current glee club and chorus. Our joint concert with them will be performed in Sweeney Concert Hall at 8 p.m. Saturday, September 30.
Since Yom Kippur begins on October 1, we have scheduled only the organizational planning meeting for that morning. We’ll have a brunch at Alumnae House and discuss the constitutional, bureaucratic, and financial organization of the Alumnae Chorus, and we’ll make plans for the next year and brainstorm about the tremendous potential we have as a group.
Music and practice CDs will be mailed in August.
Please join us for a memorable event and some wonderful music.
