On this remarkable journey, aboard the sleek Corinthian II, you'll come to know the powerful women who, despite being overshadowed by more famous men, had significant influence in the legendary Mediterranean lands where they lived. In Turkey, you'll consider Artemisia, battleship commander and builder of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus (one of the Seven Wonders of the World), and also St. Tecla, a friend and follower of St. Paul. In Palmyra, Syria, you'll meet Queen Zenobia, who defeated Roman troops and successfully invaded Egypt. On the Greek portion of the trip, you'll come to know Aspasia, Pericles' mistress credited with contributing to the methodologies of Plato, and on Rhodes you'll encounter Kallipateira, the only woman known to have attended the ancient Olympic games. The voyage will conclude in Alexandria, Egypt, where Ptolemaic rule famously ended with Cleopatra.
