 Explore Mayan ruins, rainforest
biodiversity, and marine life along
the world’s second largest barrier
reef in the Central American nation
of Belize. You’ll set forth from
Belize’s western rainforest, where
you’ll scour jungle-covered hills for
medicinal plants, monkeys, iguanas,
and keel-billed toucans, before
traveling by river to ancient Mayan
sites including Tikal, a World Heritage
location in neighboring Guatemala.
Turning from archaeology
to the coast, you’ll travel to South
Water Caye, a secluded barrier
reef island. Here you’ll enjoy daily
swims and snorkels amid corals
and tropical fish, plus reef and
mangrove tours by scientists at
the nearby Smithsonian Research
Center.
