Discover Europe’s heartland on this unique cruise-and-rail adventure that traces the Rhine River from the North Sea to the Swiss Alps. Embarking from Amsterdam, you’ll cruise through Holland, Germany, and France, passing castles, cathedrals, and terraced vineyards en route. Off-ship, you’ll explore medieval university towns, Cologne’s Gothic cathedral, and the café scene in Strasbourg. In Basel, Switzerland, you’ll switch to rail and road transportation, first visiting the alpine resort of Zermatt, nestled beneath the Matterhorn, and peaceful, lakeside Lucerne. Your tour soars to a high point—literally—aboard three rail journeys that climb through the majestic Alps. A pre-program option, with two nights in Amsterdam and an excursion to two maritime towns, is available.
