Alumnae of Smith College set up base in Cortona, as they set out to explore the famed Tuscan region, one that has been both inspiration and witness to feats that cover the entire spectrum of human achievement. Along with their families and friends, alumnae journeyed to tiny Montepulciano, set in the heart of Chiana Country, full of quaint cafes and aromatic wine cellars. They then explored the walled city of Perugia, the ancient Etruscan city-state with one of Italy’s most splendid squares, and medieval Assisi, home to the exquisite St. Francis Basilica. In Siena, they enjoyed a resplendent showcase of magnificent cathedrals and stunning Gothic buildings, and then continued to Florence, the Cradle of the Renaissance, where Italy’s artistic genius abounds at every turn.
