White-sand beaches meet the mountains in cosmopolitan
Cape Town, where you'll begin to explore
South Africa's astonishing diversity. The city's boutiques
and vibrant gardens are capped by flat-topped Table
Mountain, from which you'll glimpse—and later cruise
to—Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was held prisoner. At the
Cape of Good Hope, you'll walk amid African penguins and gaze at both
the Atlantic and Pacific from soaring sea cliffs. The highlight of Zambia
is mile-wide Victoria Falls, called "The Smoke that Thunders." Back in
South Africa, you'll explore Soweto and its Apartheid Museum, before
embarking on a viewing safari of zebras, giraffes, lions, impalas, and
more. Optional excursions include a wine country tour and tasting in the
colonial towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek; a sunset Zambezi River
cruise; and in Botswana, elephant sighting in Chobe National Park.
