Professor Carrie Baker’s Book Reviewed by ‘Ms.’ Magazine

In Abortion Pills: US History and Politics, Baker traces the efforts of activists surrounding the creation of and access to abortion pills. “[Baker’s] study highlights a stunning array of legislative gambits as well as an enormous number of players … hellbent on either expanding or curtailing abortion access,” says Ms. magazine.

Lydia Deere-MacLeod Crafts ’05 Wins Social Worker Award

Crafts, who serves in the Maine House of Representatives, was honored by the National Association of Social Workers for her continued advocacy for social workers and their respective clients. In a recent statement, Crafts is described as “a champion for the underserved, oppressed, stigmatized, and historically marginalized.”

Professor Naila Moreira on Why She Became a Journalist

Co-director of Smith’s journalism concentration, Moreira recently spoke with the American Statistical Association about her career trajectory, her teaching curriculum, and the importance of data journalism. “Understanding data and how to write about it can help journalists spot and fight misinformation,” she says.

Nikki Long ’00 Accepts New Corporate Leadership Role

In November, Long was promoted at FastenMaster to vice president of the structural business unit and customer service department. According to a statement, in this new role she will oversee the company’s development of new products and guide the construction sales team and customer service department.
