Poole, left, and Moss have dedicated much of their lives to studying and documenting the habits of endangered African savanna elephants. Through their extensive research, both together and separately, they’ve gained insight into elephants’ matriarchal social system, identified a behavioral syndrome in male elephants, and worked to end the exploitation of elephants for human entertainment.

This Saturday, Smith will host several events in recognition of the day Sophia Smith signed her will establishing the college, including a lecture hosted by President Sarah Willie-LeBreton and Northampton Mayor Gina-Louise Sciarra ’96 at the Alumnae House at 1 p.m. EST.

Following a 79–66 victory over MIT on March 2, Smith’s basketball team has once again punched its ticket to the NCAA Division III tournament. This Friday at 6:45 p.m. EST, Smith will host SUNY Cobleskill for the first round of the 2025 championship.

After achieving a teamwide grade point average of 3.64, the Pioneers were named a Scholar All-America Team, a College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America recognition for programs that excel both in the classroom and in the pool.

A leading cancer researcher, Molineaux will begin a three-year term on July 1 as the next chair of the board. She succeeds Alison Overseth ’80, a member of the board of trustees since 2012 who helped spearhead the search for Smith’s 12th president, among other accomplishments.

When scholar and author Conway became head of the college in 1975, it marked a departure from the old boys’ network in higher education and a turning point for the larger society. One of her key accomplishments as president was establishing the Ada Comstock Scholars Program, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Until March 16, the Smith community can participate in a survey about campus spaces. “I invite you to help us create a campus that reflects our collective aspirations for the future,” says David DeSwert, executive vice president for finance and administration.

On March 10 at 9 a.m. EST, Hersey will participate in a conversation moderated by the Maine Sports Hall of Fame. The free symposium will focus on helping student athletes realize their potential on and off the field, according to a statement.
