How Cynthia Moss ’62 and Joyce Poole ’79 Changed Elephant Research Forever

Poole, left, and Moss have dedicated much of their lives to studying and documenting the habits of endangered African savanna elephants. Through their extensive research, both together and separately, they’ve gained insight into elephants’ matriarchal social system, identified a behavioral syndrome in male elephants, and worked to end the exploitation of elephants for human entertainment.

Susan May Molineaux ’75 Named Chair of Smith’s Board of Trustees

A leading cancer researcher, Molineaux will begin a three-year term on July 1 as the next chair of the board. She succeeds Alison Overseth ’80, a member of the board of trustees since 2012 who helped spearhead the search for Smith’s 12th president, among other accomplishments.

When scholar and author Conway became head of the college in 1975, it marked a departure from the old boys’ network in higher education and a turning point for the larger society. ‘Meridians’ Launches New Website for 25th Anniversary

Designed and built by Xinyang Sun ’25 and Linh Tran ’27, the new website helps expand access to Meridians’s feminist scholarship. Explore more Meridians materials during a Neilson Library archives presentation this Friday at 4 p.m. EST.

On March 10 at 9 a.m. EST, Hersey will participate in a conversation moderated by the Maine Sports Hall of Fame. The free symposium will focus on helping student athletes realize their potential on and off the field, according to a statement.
