Track & Field Posts Historic Performances

On March 14, the Pioneers made history when the distance medley relay (DMR) team competed for the first time in franchise history at the NCAA Indoor Championships, finishing 11th overall. This performance follows Track & Field’s recent success at the New England Division III Championships, where the team improved on last year’s 16th-place finish to clinch 13th place. Last month, the team also took home the Peter de Villiers Cup, thanks in large part to winning both of the meet’s relays.

‘LIFE’ Magazine Photos Capture Daily Lives of Smithies in the 1940s

Taken by American photojournalist Peter Stackpole, this collection of images from 1948 provides a glimpse into different aspects of the Smith College experience. The images also capture the era’s fashions, showing athletes in red jumpers carrying tennis rackets, students in lace-up Oxfords sitting front row during a lecture, and women in long jean shorts preparing to ride their bicycles.

Jocel Boney Thornhill ’90 Makes List of Women Trailblazers

After being named to ONYX ’s Women on the Move list, which celebrates Florida’s most impactful and influential women, Thornhill was honored at a March 1 ceremony for her work as director of strategic programs and community relations at Electronic Arts.

Jaime Snyder, M.S. ’19, Becomes Coach at Northeastern

In this new role, Snyder will oversee the university’s volleyball team, the Huskies. According to an article by The Huntington News, Northeastern’s student newspaper, Snyder previously coached at Hartford University and D’Youville University.
