Basketball Claims National Runner-Up Finish After Loss to NYU
For the second year in a row, Smith faced New York University in the NCAA Division III finals. The Pioneers ultimately lost on Saturday, bringing a strong season to a close. “This doesn’t define the entire season; this is a part of our journey,” says head coach Lynn Hersey.

Smith Geothermal Project Highlighted in ‘District Energy’ Magazine
In the International District Energy Association’s magazine, Smith’s geothermal project was touted for tapping the “enormous potential of thermal storage and exchange below the Earth’s surface.” The project is expected to lower Smith’s carbon emissions by as much as 90%.

Penn Prof. Hannah Feldman To Give Miller Lecture on Friday
Each year, the Smith College Museum of Art invites a distinguished artist, art historian, or curator to deliver a public lecture. As this year’s guest speaker, historian Feldman will deliver a lecture called “The 1001st Night of Scheherazade, Here, and Now: A tale untold in dots and forms” on March 28 at 4:30 p.m. EST in the campus center’s Carroll Room.

Tosca Lee ’92’s Novel a One Book One Nebraska Selection
One Book One Nebraska is a reading initiative that amplifies literature either about Nebraska or by a Nebraskan author. This year’s selection is The Long March Home, a work of historical fiction co-authored by Lee and Marcus Brotherton that centers on the 1942 Bataan Death March.

Mary Clare Michael ’26 Launches Playwriting Festival
Founded by Michael in 2024, the Policy Playhouse is a student-led initiative that connects policymakers and their constituents through the arts. The Playhouse’s inaugural Playwriting Festival will be held this weekend, March 28–30, in Northampton and will feature writing workshops, readings, an open mic, and more.

Mehrin Rahman ’10 Earns Communicator of the Year Award
In January, the National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems honored Rahman with a Public Pension Communicator of the Year Award in recognition of her work in the area of assets under management. Rahman is currently the communications director for the City of Austin Employees’ Retirement System.
