Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. When is our Reunion: May 21-24, 2025 (Reunion II)

2. Why should I plan to come to Reunion?

This is a weekend designed for you to remember, reminisce, learn, enjoy, schmooze, kibbutz, admire … and Carpe Diem!!! We can’t predict the future other than to say you will LOVE the weekend.   Reason most people attend: to see old (of long standing) friends.

3. Cost is a consideration.

Contact Janet for financial help; all info will be confidential. Speaking of travel, remember that Friday travel from points South (and probably East) is challenging; sign up for Thursday – you’re paying for it (lodging) anyway.   Check out the Smith site for travel suggestions.

4. Housing and Meals

Our headquarters is in a house with elevators – close to Alumnae House – but be warned if you sign up late, there may not be space in that house and you’ll be somewhere else nearby.   There’s no A/C.

5. What should I bring?

The College provides:

A bed with TWO clean sheets, a pillow and a light blanket

A washcloth and small towel, there may be soaps in the bathroom but I recall we provided those from our various hotel stays.

The room single or double room with one (or two) wall light(s), a waste basket, a recycling container, maybe paper cups.

Other items you might want:
A book light or flashlight if you want to read
Shampoo
Hair dryer
An alarm clock
Refillable water bottle as Smith is EXTREMELY “green” and any other items that would enhance your comfort such as a pillow, a larger towel, a robe, an extra blanket, a hat and a sweater for unknown weather.
Chargers for your electronics.

And, don’t forget your white outfit for the Saturday Parade

6. What’s the weather like?

We’ve had some reunions with cold rain and this past year (’64’s 60th) the weather was fabulous – a bit hot on Friday but sunny and pleasant on Saturday and Sunday. We are gathering for each other and not the climate although layers are always a good idea! Sometimes you need a hat; sometimes an umbrella, sometimes a sweater. Check local Northampton weather.

7. May I bring a guest?

Yes, spouses, partners and even children or grandchildren may attend. Or, you can come alone and discover someone you barely knew or didn’t know! This is not for a group of “usual suspects” or for attending with and talking only to a close friend but for every member of the Class of 1965.

There are no House-specific functions.

8. Where should I go when I arrive?

Go directly to the Alumnae House (33 Elm Street) to check in and then to our class house(s).   Our Headquarters  will be open at 3 pm Thursday so come early.

9. I have special requirements – dietary, accessibility.

All meals include a vegetarian (Vegan, Kosher) alternative. Accessibility is a question when you register so please mention any special needs.

10. Schedule (and traditions)

Over the years we have created some traditions at our reunions like  our wonderful book, ..and of course there are spectacular campus facilities to see and admire: the outstanding Art Museum, the new Ford Engineering Building, the fabulous Botanic Gardens, even the Sophia Smith Collection in the Archives – AND the LIBRARY

My question is not answered here.

There is a detailed “Frequently Asked Questions” – more questions that I could ever think of – on the Smith Alumnae site. Or get in touch with Peggy or Paula.
