Join the Grécourt Society

Grateful Grécourt Greetings for the 55th

As we continue our quest for new members of The Grécourt Society (“TGS”) before our 55th reunion in May 2024 (and, we hope, winning another prize for adding the most new members since the last reunion), we also want to acknowledge the more than 100 TGS members who have already notified Smith of having included Smith in their estate planning – thank you for that outstanding support.

Some of you may have become TGS members at the time – or soon after – TGS was founded in 1994, and others may have done so more recently when Smith decided in 2014 to allow Reunion Bequest Intention (“RBI”) credit for any testamentary, primary beneficiary gift of $10,000 or more.  With that policy, for the 50th reunion, our class received credit for 50% of all qualifying RBIs for purposes of our class reunion gift – which, added to several bequests actually received, represented 65% of ’69’s prize-winning total reunion gift.  Wow.

For our 55th, the allowed percentage credit is 55%.  So it is even more important that we urge all TGS members (especially those who joined before the RBI policy and those whose gifts were previously expressed as contingent or as a percentage of some account) to check to see if their gifts might now be classified as primary with the current value now being $10,000 or more (fortunately, most assets do appreciate!).  You might also check to see if the gift is a joint asset coming from you and your spouse, in which case your spouse could help to boost our numbers of new members of TGS.   Or perhaps you may have postponed or overlooked providing complete notice to Smith in the past.  In any case, just notify Smith’s Office of Gift Planning (giftplanning@smith.edu or 800.241.2056 (option 4)) of your good news now, and they will assist in whatever you want to accomplish to help our class as well as future Smithies.

And, please remember, a bountiful source of information about all kinds of options for planned gifts (large or small, easy or complex) is always available at smith.plannedgiving.org.

Appreciatively,

Edie Dinneen, Chair of Planned Giving
