Class of 2010 Marches Across the Globe

Claire Stein-Ross: Marched in Washington, DC

“I was thrilled to have Yael Langer and Rachel Sietz (and Rachel’s parents and sister) all drive down to D.C. for the March. After a very tough week, the energy and dedication (not to mention the creativity) I saw across the Mall and across the entire world was incredible. It was probably the Smithiest I’ve felt since I left campus, and it was amazing to see so many people experience that sense of community and power to make a difference that Smith and Smithies have instilled in me.”

Emily Corwin: Marched in Houston, Texas

The awesome Maddie Ryan, coworkers, and friends gathered in Houston for the second largest march in the city’s history. Houston went blue this election – all the way through the DA’s office and the election for Sheriff. I work with an amazing group of liberal feminists, thankfully, and our whole office has been through all the stages of grief since November. Having grown up in Bush country in West Texas, I’ve been protesting my whole life, including joining with LULAC members to protest the KKK when I was in high school. This march had a completely different energy – it felt fresh, it felt powerful, and it felt like a paradigm shift in Texas politics. And Houston is still marching and protesting every week. Molly Ivins would be proud.
