Unfortunately, this outreach program is in jeopardy as donations to the club have been dwindling. The club used to fund the cost of the books, but currently can only afford to pay for the shipping of these books. Financial donations are welcome.
The Hartford Smith College Club’s Book Awards program recognizes the achievements of students from high schools in our area by presenting a Smith Book Award to an outstanding junior who exemplifies the academic achievement, leadership qualities, and concern for others that characterize the thousands of women who have graduated from Smith College. We ask the high schools to nominate a girl from the top tenth of the junior class who embodies these qualities and serves as an example of scholarship and community service. Awards are generally presented in the spring of an academic year.
Alumnae assist the Book Awards in any number of ways. While the schools generally give the awards themselves at their late spring awards program, some will allow alumnae to present the award, and we are always looking for alumnae willing to attend school awards programs.
