Join us on this custom-designed week-long journey to Madeira. In the company of Marguerite Harrison, associate professor of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies at Smith College, and Pamela Petro, currently the Lucille Geier Lakes Writer in Residence in the Department of English, you will visit every part of this “Garden Island of the Atlantic,” learning about the culture, gardens and vineyards. Famous throughout the world for its natural beauty, Madeira has been described as the “island of eternal spring”. Your home for the week will be the famed Belmond Reid’s Palace set in subtropical gardens overlooking the Atlantic. For more than a century, Reid’s has been attracting visitors, including Sir Winston Churchill, who relish both the beautiful surroundings and the delicious English High Tea! Escape this winter to experience the full flavor of Portugal’s very own floating botanical paradise.
