Celebrate old media, new media, and next media!
The worlds of publishing and of print and broadcast journalism are at a crossroads. Nobody knows what the future holds, but the good news is that this changing media landscape is creating new opportunities.
Held in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the Smith Alumnae Quarterly, this two-day conference will provide a historical overview of the written word and look ahead to what might be in store. With other alumnae and Smith faculty, you’ll discuss the influence of women as writers and explore some of the contemporary issues in journalism and literature. Topics include:
• Ethics in journalism (held in conjunction with Smith’s government and philosophy departments and ethics program)
• Freelance survival in a tough economy
• Finding your voice: fiction and nonfiction writing
• Courageous journalism
• Building a stronger professional network
