Knowing Pam was knowing kindness. Her smile welcomed everyone with such ease that you felt her warmth and gentle heartedness. At Smith, she majored in geology and went on to a master’s degree and then several academic positions. A USGS supervisor described her as “the nicest, kindest, most industrious and optimistic person ever known.” She enjoyed every moment, curious in the natural world. She was always in motion and described by one dear friend and colleague as the best older sister and mentor. In addition to being a college record-holding runner, she was an avid outdoorswoman, skiing, hiking and camping. She is survived by her parents Henry and Pamela (Class’57); husband Ron Hill and their boys Alex and Andrew; brother John Gemery; cousin John Malcolm.
