Northampton, MA — Jill Ker Conway, an acclaimed scholar and author who served from 1975 to 1985 as president of Smith College — died Friday, June 1, 2018 at her home in Boston. She was 83.
Jill Ker Conway was the first woman to serve as president of Smith. As Smith’s president, Conway led the development of manygroundbreaking programs, projects and academic departments, including the Ada Comstock Scholars Program, an innovative, life-changing and highly regarded program for students beyond the traditional age.

Welcome to Dr. Andrea Rossi-Reder who comes to Smith from Connecticut College where she served as the Dean of the First Year class and Associate Dean of the College for 11 years. She holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Medieval Studies from the University of Connecticut, and the B.A. in Medieval Studies from Mount Holyoke College. She’s taught courses in Medieval Literature, British Women’s Contemporary Literature, and Latin at The College of Idaho, Baylor University, and Connecticut College. She lived in Italy and England, where she studied medieval bestiaries and Anglo-Latin manuscripts. She has two children, ages 18 and 14, her spouse works at Connecticut College and she enjoys cooking and painting in her spare time. She started July 1st, so if you’re on campus, extend a warm welcome.
