Founder’s Day, March 8, 2025

To mark the day Sophia Smith signed her will establishing Smith College and in recognition of International Women’s DaySmith will celebrate Founder’s Day on Saturday, March 8. Through free activities and programs across campus, Smith will come together to honor the spirit of generosity within the Smith community.

On the North Shore we will celebrate Founder’s Day in three ways.

  1. Walk with Smithies, 11:00 a.m. at Old Town Hill in Newbury. Meet at The Trustees of Reservations parking lot at 48 Newman Rd, Newbury, MA 01951

  2. Cafe meetup, 12:30 p.m. at NU Kitchen in Newburyport. We will most likely be at the main table as you walk in the front door at 19-23 Pleasant St, Newburyport, MA 01950

  3. In the spirit of generosity we will be collecting donations of personal care items/toiletries for survivors of human trafficking. Items that are needed (travel size bottles are requested for toiletries, no large bottles please; new items only):
    • Hairbrushes (#1 request)
    • Combs
    • Hair ties
    • Hair “scrunchies”
    • Feminine products (pads, tampons)
    • Deodorant
    • Shampoo
    • Conditioner
    • Hairspray
    • Hand lotion
    • Body lotion
    • Any facial care products (cleanser, toner, moisturizer, sunscreen)
    • Chapstick
    • Alcohol-free mouthwash
    • Dental floss
    • Hand wipes
    • Small hand towels/washcloths
    • Flip flops
    • Small notebooks
    • Pens
    • Please no toothbrushes or toothpaste due to a current surplus

    NU Kitchen on Saturday, March 8th or arrange a drop off with Christina Bain at starr10@banet.net (Manchester-by-the-Sea) or Sarah Pedicini at sepedicini11@gmail.com (Peabody) by Saturday, March 15th. These items will be delivered to a coalition of five women’s religious organizations as part of their Boston Anti-Trafficking Coalition. The much-needed items will be distributed to women and girls in six New England states who are survivors of sex and labor trafficking.
