Multimillion Dollar Gift Endows Scholarships
A $10 million gift from a member of the class of 1986 will “shape the lives of generations of Smith women,” said President Kathleen McCartney. The gift, which will be used to endow scholarships and inspire matching gifts, is among the largest ever to a women’s college.

Web Redesign: What Do You Think?
Alumnae and media around the world took note of the board of trustees’ recent announcement about the admission of self-identified transgender women. Three faculty members have been chosen by Smith colleagues, students and alumnae to receive the 2015 Kathleen Compton Sherrerd ’54 and John J. F. Sherrerd Prizes for Distinguished Teaching: Sara Pruss (geosciences), pictured above, Justina Gregory ’67 (classics) and Alan Rudnitsky (education). Primacy, an award-winning Connecticut-based digital agency, is partnering with a campus redesign working group made up of various Smith departments to create a website that will meet the needs of the global Smith community. College Admission: Getting to Yes
"Smith Connection: An Inside Look at College Admissions," on June 26, is a special event offered exclusively to Smith alumnae and young women in their families. $50 per family, includes lunch.
New Athletics Director Named
Kristin Hughes, SM ’93, has been appointed Smith’s new director of athletics and recreation effective July 21. She earned a master's in exercise and sport studies at Smith.
