| Actress, playwright and social commentator Anna Deavere Smith offered a special performance as part of a March 4 campuswide celebration of the more than 37,000 donors who contributed to the college's Women for the World campaign. Highlights of the day included open houses across campus, a reception and dinner. |
Former Smith College president Carol T. Christ has been named the first woman chancellor of the University of California Berkeley. Janet Napolitano, UC president, made the announcement on March 13. Christ, who retired from Smith in 2013, has a long history with Berkeley. She began her career there as an assistant professor in 1970. |
Preeminent scholar and cultural critic Henry Louis Gates, Jr., will speak on “Black America Since MLK” on Monday, March 27, at 4:30 p.m. The event, which is part of Smith's Presidential Colloquium series, will take place in Weinstein Auditorium and is open to the public at no charge. |
