Students Design Safer Greenway Honorands Offer Life Tips and More On Graduation Eve Returning Alumnae Celebrate Milestone Reunions
Students in the Engineering Design Clinic worked with Smith faculty and the staff at the Mill River Greenway Initiative to find ways to improve safety at a dangerous riverbank bend that is part of a planned bike path. Smith professor Susannah Howe noted, “This is as good an example of students collaborating with multiple professional engineers as I’ve ever seen." Smith President Emerita Carol Christ, filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy ’02, poet Rita Dove, civil rights expert Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw, and retiring president of Greenfield Community College Robert Pura joined President Kathleen McCartney for a discussion on a variety of topics, from new beginnings to life's transitions. Nearly 1,000 alumnae from the classes of ’68, ’78, ’88, ’98, and ’08 returned to campus for Reunion/Commencement Weekend to celebrate milestone anniversaries since their own Smith graduations, with the class of ’68 celebrating its 50th Reunion. Enjoy a photo gallery of the weekend's events, which despite persistent spring rains were deemed resoundingly successful.
