| Students in “The Art and History of the Book,” taught by English lecturer Barbara Blumenthal ’75, examine two original copies of the “Nuremberg Chronicles,” which are both owned by Smith. The 15th-century illustrated books tell the history of the world and are among the most technically advanced examples of early printing. |
Desiree Akhavan ’07’s debut TV show The Bisexual, which originally aired in England, is now available in America on Hulu. Akhavan, who took top honors at Sundance this year for her film, The Miseducation of Cameron Post, created The Bisexual and also stars in the series, which addresses myriad issues of female sexuality. |
Beatrice Chaudoin ’19 has been named to the Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-American Second Team—the fourth field hockey player in Smith history to earn the award. The Pioneers field hockey team finished the 2018 season in a historic way as the Pioneers captured the NEWMAC title for the first time in program history. |

| Fourteen projects, from a Black healing arts festival to public events with children’s book creators of color, are being funded through a series of Innovation Challenge grants. Established in 2016 by President Kathleen McCartney, the grants support research, teaching and learning programs built around inclusion, diversity and equity. |

| Arianne Abela ’08 Leads Holiday Concert She Loved as a Student |

| Arianne Abela ’08, new director of the Amherst College choral program, will lead the annual "Hodie" benefit concert, which raises donations for the Sidney F. Smith Toy Fund. Abela says it was her participation in the fundraising concerts as a student that not only led her to a career in music but also helped her overcome insecurities because of physical challenges. The concert is Friday, Dec. 14, at 7:30 p.m. at Amherst College’s Buckley Recital Hall and will feature singers from local choruses and the five colleges. |
