The initial phase of a pilot project to install a geothermal exchange system began in September, with a large drill rig boring a 1,000-foot-deep vertical hole near the Field House. Geothermal technology works by harnessing the stable temperatures found below the Earth’s surface. Faculty and students are using this first phase to study the sediment and groundwater beneath the campus. |
During the month of December, The Smith Fund is raising money to increase scholarship aid for Smith students. A generous member of the class of 1963 will give $25,000 to Smith if 1,500 alums, parents and friends make donations of any size during the month of December, making it a great time to give. Remember, every dollar you give helps meet the needs of current Smithies. |
