The Last Competent Class’s 50th Reunion — It’s the big one!

This page is under construction, but it will be the place to monitor our Reunion giving progress.

Reunion Cycle Goal     FY Goals & Results     Matches and Challenges     Honorary and Memorial Gifts

Reunion Cycle Participation Goal

  • Near universal participation at any giving level from all contactable class donors. This hasn’t been achieved by any other class, but we believe if it can be done, the Last Competent Class can do it!
  • Includes all giving: Smith Fund, plus non-Smith Fund restricted funds and endowed scholarships and other funds, and — for this reunion — includes fully documented direct planned gifts. (Contact the Planned Giving Chairs for more information.)
  • We only can meet these goals if each of us does her part. We’re asking everyone to give and to reach out to housemates and friends and remind them to do their part, too. Smith says:

“Most class members who participate in their Milestone Reunion Fund stretch to make the largest commitment they have considered to Smith to date.”

Goals & Results

  • FY 2022-2023 results: 166 donors (28% participation)
  • FY 2023-2024 results: 196 donors (18% more than previous FY)
  • FY 2024-2025 goal: 226 donors (15% more than previous FY actual)

Matches and Challenges — promoted via email, facebook, this website, and givecampus. These are proving to be very successful campaigns, yielding new donors and even a few repeat givers!

  • June 2024 Challenge: participation goal: 50 “new” donors (those who had not given during the fiscal year already)
  • December 2024 Challenge: participation goal: 100 donors by the midpoint of FY23-24

Honorary and Memorial Gifts

Reunion offers a time to reflect on what Smith friends have meant to us. It is a wonderful time to let classmates know what they meant to you. A great way to express your feelings is by making a gift to The Smith Fund in a classmate’s name.

When you give to Smith in memory of a Smith friend who has died, in honor of a lifelong Smith friend, or in celebration of one or more classmates who made Smith special for you, the College will send an acknowledgement to the classmate(s) or their families, sharing that you have honored or remembered them with a gift to the College. You may find our class necrology here.

If you cannot attend Reunion in person, consider donating part or all of what you might have spent on travel and registration fees.

To make a gift in honor or remembrance of a classmate, add “In honor of (or in memory of) [classmate name]” as an annotation to your online or mailed-in donation. Online donations can be made by clicking here.  If you prefer to send a check (with a note indicating the 1977 classmate you wish to honor or remember), the mailing address is:  Smith College Gift Accounting, 76 Elm Street, Northampton, MA  01063.
