2010-2011 Year in Review

The Club began fiscal year 2011 with a send off party for new and returning Smith students. The group met in July 2010 at Pi Restaurant in University City.

Several alumnae and their guests went to the St. Louis Rams season opening football game against the Arizona Cardinals on September 12 at the Edward Jones Dome. Although the Rams did not win this first game, all the attendees had a great time.

During the second half of 2010, the Club organized the following series of Casual events for alumnae:

– Lester’s Bar and Grill in July
– Yia Yia’s in August
– Sasha’s Wine Bar in September

In November, alumnae heard the St. Louis Symphony and Chorus perform Stravinsky’s Three Sacred Choruses and Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky. Amy Kaiser, Smith alumna and director of the chorus, kindly hosted a pre-show talk at her home.

The Club began 2011 with a trip to the Missouri History Museum where the group had brunch at Bixby’s and viewed the special exhibit “Home Lands: How Women Made the West.” The attendees had a good time chatting and walking through the galleries.

On March 12, several alumnae and their guests attend the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s performance at Fox Theater. All the attendees enjoyed the vibrant performance.

Several Smith alumnae joined fellow Ivy League and Seven Sisters alumni for a cocktail reception and private tour of the Saint Louis Art Museum’s exhibition, “Fiery Pool: The Maya and the Mythic Sea.” The alumnae and their guests enjoyed the April 28 behind-the-scenes tour of the fascinating exhibition, which presented information on the importance of water in ancient Mayan art and culture.

To end the Club’s fiscal year, the Annual Meeting was held at Cuisine d’Art on Saturday, June 11. Several alumnae and Leslie D. Mark (’83) AASC Board, Chair of Regional Networks had lunch and attended the meeting.
