Giving to Smith

A Gift to Smith That Pays You Income
Smith College Office of Alumnae Relations

A “guaranteed paycheck” for life. What’s not to like about a gift that pays you income?

Some of the best ways to support Smith College are available through life-income gifts. Hundreds of Smith alumnae and friends have made these “Gifts That Pay You Income.”

With a charitable gift annuity, you can make a gift to Smith that provides you with a secure stream of fixed income for life then passes to the college afterward. These gifts can be adapted to your situation: you can get the income immediately or defer it for a higher rate of income. You can have the income last your lifetime or for the lifetime of you and your spouse or partner. You also receive substantial tax benefits. You’ll be making a great contribution to the education of future Smithies. And your gift will make a meaningful addition to the class’s 50th Reunion gift.

Join Sam Samuels, Smith College Director of Gift Planning, on Tuesday, March 23, 1:00-2:00 PM EDT for this informative webinar about life-income gifts.

To participate by computer, click this link or join by phone at (646) 558-8656 and enter meeting ID 990 8090 1291 when prompted.

In 2021 we will gather at Smith to celebrate our 50th reunion.  As Smith students, we received a world-class education that challenged us and enabled us—in ways big and small—to live lives of distinction and purpose.  Now, as your class fund co-chairs and planned giving chair, we ask you to consider helping Smith in return.  The cause of educating women of promise to be leaders needs you.  Will you consider becoming a champion for women’s education by making a gift this year and each year through our 50th?

Smith counts all giving in the 5 years leading up to our reunion towards our total gift regardless of whether the giving is directed to the Smith Fund or one of the “Friends of” funds.  We are now in year 2 of that five-year period.  Will you consider now how you can participate in this and the next three fiscal years culminating in 2021?

We have worked with Smith’s Development Office to create an easy guide to giving.  It shows how each of us can multiply our giving to make our 50th class gift more than any of us has thought possible.  Explore the options here:Giving to Smith

Smith established the Grecourt Society to recognize during their lifetime those alumnae who have provided for a gift to Smith in their wills or other estate plans.  Our class already has a higher than average membership.  Please consider joining before our 50th reunion because these planned gifts will count toward our total reunion giving if you let the college know at Planned Giving (click on The Grecourt Society tab).  Contact Deborah Lans for more information on planned giving (Deborah Lans).

Smith cannot provide world-class educations to promising young women without your help.  So we thank you for considering Smith as you make your decisions about charitable giving and we prepare for our 50th reunion.

Do You Want to be Part of the Reunion?  Remember the fun we had at our 45th when announcing the winners of our house giving participation competition?  Congratulations again, Washburn, Baldwin and Lamont and our several house fund reps!  Will you consider volunteering as a house fund rep to send an annual email to each of your housemates over the next three years asking them to consider making a gift to Smith?  You can help support great women’s education and make our class participation goals.  We’ll provide you with suggested text and contact information. Then, you have fun reconnecting and supporting Smith’s women of promise who, like us almost 50 years ago, want to be engaged global citizens who have the education and the confidence to address society’s challenges.   Contact Angelica Didier Light or Suzy Ross McDowell to get involved.
